Marination | Seattle, WA

First time trying Marination and it was pretty good!

My cousin recommended we go here because it is one of her favorite places to eat.

We went to their Marination Mai Kai location on Harbor Avenue in West Seattle.

They have more outdoor seating than indoor but since her son was with us who was only a couple months old at the time we decided to sit inside where it was cooler.

The food is a fusion between Hawaiian and Korean cuisine.

I almost loved everything we got, but there were definitely a few hits and misses.

Kimchi Fried Rice | ★★★★✩

My cousin ordered the Kimchi fried rice which smelt AH-MAZING!

I got to try a little bit of it and it was really flavorful.

I'm not the biggest fan of kimchi but I do like it when its mixed in with things.

Fish Taco | ★★★✩

Honestly, wasn't bad, but wasn't amazing either.

The fish taco is marinated in miso sake which I feel like I could not taste very well.

So the fish ended up tasting kind of bland.

Not a fan and probably wouldn't order again.

Kalbi Beef & Spicy Pork Tacos | ★★★★✩

My cousin ordered these and said they were really good.

I trust the marinades were more flavorful than the fish taco so probably will give these a try next time.

Kimchi Quesadilla with Kalua Pork | ★★★★★

This was sooooo good.

Their kalua pork was great salty and so flavorful.

I loved the sauce they put on top as well.

I didn't really get the kimchi taste too much, but like I said before I don't mind that since I'm not a huge fan of kimchi.

This dish was probably my favorite thing that I ate that day.

Portuguese Sausage Musubi | ★✩✩✩✩

This was NOT good at all!! 😢

Rice was dry and so was the portuguese sausage.

I've never had portuguese sausage like that before.

Honestly, portuguese sausage is usually so greasy and fatty that it could never be dry.

So not sure what happened to this piece.

Anyways I was not a fan and definitely won't reorder.

Overall Rating | ★★★★✩

Yes, there were some bad dishes here, but for the ones that I liked, I really liked them.

I will definitely come back and order my favorites and maybe try a few other things.

They have such a wide variety of things on their menu I really wanted to try everything.

I also want to give them the benefit of the doubt because it was a very busy summer afternoon and this location was small.

So not sure how busy they actually are year round.

But great spot to check out if you're in West Seattle or near Alkai Beach!

Leave a comment below if you've eaten at Marination before! I would love to hear about your experience!
