Fire Up Hot Pot

After my friend and I finished working out at the gym we decided to get hot pot at a nearby restaurant. On Yelp, Fire Up Hot Pot came up as a new hot pot place in Daly City, CA so we decided to check it out.

They have a couple options for ways you can eat at this restaurant.

  • Lunch Set Menu
    • $12.95 per person
    • This is available on Friday - Sunday
    • Not an All You Can Eat (AYCE) option
    • Drinks are not included
  • AYCE Menu
    • $25.99 per person (Sunday - Thursday)
    • The larger menu
    • Can add unlimited beverages (Total $35.99 Sunday - Thursday)
    • Only order 1 meat dish per person each round

They were also advertising this special menu item. I thought this was really cool because I think  the clams pop open  once they've cooked. I have never seen this before at hot pot.

Unfortunately, we did not order it because my friend doesn't like seafood.

Hopefully, next time I go I can try it.

My friend and I decided to go with the AYCE option because in the Lunch Set menu there were a lot of fish ingredients included which he would not eat. So even though it was more expensive it would be a better deal  because we could order an unlimited amount of food and things that we actually will  eat.

After we placed our order for our first round the server gave us this tray of sauces to mix for our hot pot. I wasn't sure what everything was. They had garlic, cilantro, green onions, soy sauce, chili oil, and three other sauces I didn't like when I tasted them.

I thought this was a cool way to have sauces and extra ingredients given to you. They do take it back to give to other tables as well.

They will give you two bowls if you feel that you use a lot of sauce. My friend and I only used one bowl of sauce each and we had some leftover. So you probably don't need that much but to each their own.

Then, this pot came out! This was an awesome size pot I've never seen  one so deep before at a hot pot restaurant.

We got the spicy miso soup base but we asked for it a little mild because I suck at eating spicy foods. This was still really good.

Then, the food came.

For our first round we ordered:

  • Beef
  • Lamb
  • Udon
  • Soft Tofu
  • Corn
  • Enoki Mushrooms
  • Chinese Cabbage
  • Spinach
  • 2x Rice
  • Dumplings
  • Pork Meatballs
  • Chinese Doughnut

Everything was good and as I expected it to taste except for the lamb. I've ordered lamb before other times for hot pot and I just don't remember it tasting that way.

My friend couldn't notice anything weird about it so could have just been me.

For our second round we ordered:

  • Beef
  • Pork

The pork was good it had some good fat on the slices so it added to the flavor.

For our third round we ordered:

  • 2x Beef

Personally, I think the beef was just okay I feel like I've had more flavorful beef at other hot pot restaurants.

Overall Review | ★★★★✩

I liked the atmosphere and decor in this restaurant. The bathroom was clean and looked cool. The food was good, but not amazing. The service was great. We didn't feel rushed and he  came back frequently to get our next round in. I would definitely eat here again if I had to, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way because there are better hot pot restaurants closer to where I live.
